Employee Experience/Engagement with Stefanie Brockstädt (Part 2)

In Part 2 of this series around Employee Experience/Engagement in partnership with Peoplesmart, Stefanie Brockstädt (Head of L&D at Berlin Brands Group) looks at what resources companies need to ensure they create a unique experience for each employee. 

Companies today cannot simply just offer basic benefits such as PTO and health insurance, they must go above and beyond to ensure they are providing their employees with an expectational and unique experience in the workplace. So the first question you need to ask yourself as an organisation is what do you mean when it comes to resources, whether that be the environment or a tool. Organisations need to ensure that they think carefully about what they want to achieve by the experience they want to get for their employees and then identify what resources they need. However, this depends on the size of the company as well as the budget. For small start-ups, on the other hand, it may not matter what the budget is or what the resources are, as long as everyone feels responsible. 

Managers need to ensure they care for their teams and well-being. If they don’t have the measures in place with roles and responsibilities and understand what everyone is capable or in need of, then organisations will not find a positive outcome. The key, when looking at rolling out something like employee experience, is that organisations need to make it right from the beginning to ensure they are honest about tasks. 

Stefanie then goes on to talk about what employee experience looks like to her which she explains is something that needs to start at the top and be decided as a company. Employees want to see from their leaders that they are there for their well-being and want to hear what they have to say. If organisations are not able to do this person-to-person then that would be the perfect opportunity to use the perfect tool. The importance is understanding what you want to achieve as a company. When talking about flexibility and what people want now, buying a tool is exactly what is needed. 

However, before you roll out such a tool, you need to think about what kind of work culture you have. Organisations must be able to understand what kind of culture they have because if not then it is difficult to understand what you want to get out of it. According to Stefanie, when it comes to employee engagement and experience you want to have people that can identify with your company culture and that work in tandem. 

To conclude the discussion, Stefanie discusses what she believes are the main key things to providing a successful and engaging employee experience. According to Stefanie, the main key things are simply described in four words; Trust, Transparency, Inclusion and Caring.
