2021: Proactive Productivity and Collaborative Communication

2020 has been a challenging year for obvious reasons for many industries and job roles, but no more so than the impact this has had on the Recruitment industry and for sales professionals.

The role of productivity and communication have been raised into the spotlight as organisations adjust the ways they have been operating and the experiences that employees have been encountering.

The BTN hosted a VIP virtual roundtable, in partnership with Cloudcall, for sales and recruitment leaders who are looking to improve collaboration within their teams in both fully remote snd hybrid environments.

Select your communication channels and focus on them

The group began their discussions by focusing on the positive impacts that the pandemic has had on communication across their businesses. The movement to a remote (non-office) environment has allowed employees to be untethered from laptops and desks like they historically would be, creating more device flexibility with employees willing to jump on a range of devices and communicate more.

The abundance of communication tools and channels that organisations can now invest in has meant that in some cases, employees are inundated with technology at their disposal which does not solve anything but simply creates technology fatigue facilitating by shadow IT. There must always be enough channels to appease employees needs rather than overwhelming.

People want more tools to automate

The pandemic has undoubtedly created flexibility across the board, whether we are referencing location or timing. The rise in flexible working has meant that organisations’ systems and processes need to adapt to that and the role that automation can play is huge. The role of technology to facilitate both an improved experience in terms of speed and efficiency is one that organisations have put at the forefront of their strategies. Digital-first processes have been accelerating and departments that weren’t ready before, now ‘have’ to be ready, such as onboarding and finance. The use of video interviews was deemed to be revolutionary for all the group, as a way to accelerate the early stage of the interview process and create a better & softer process.

Our roles as leaders have been redefined in our ecosystem.

Know your individuals and how to manage, that is the evolving role of leadership. The pandemic has been an industry-wide continuity exercise, whereby we all have a plan but how do you really test it? The role of the leader has been tested at every level throughout the past year and the group appreciated that relationships within direct teams have improved, yet the impact on co-collaborating and cross-functional teams have become strained. Gone are the days when you could simply have someone listening over your shoulder in the office, learning needs to be digital-first. The rise in more personalised learning experiences and better uptake in coaching to share challenges has created its own data around employee engagement levels. This data itself has allowed leaders to assess vulnerability and embed an evolved sense of care.

The role of communication has been at the top of the executive agenda for years but with more employees now working remotely and a potential opportunity for a widened talent pool, we must ensure that we are getting our employees up to speed in their learning journey as soon as possible. This is only possible through effective communication and ensuring they have the ability to be productive. The digital evolution has sped up the transformation that was inevitable, now 2021 and beyond is the time for organisations to start to understand how to maximise the efficiencies at their disposal and continue to focus on building a culture of collaboration through effective communication.
